Tom Picone worked in the pharmaceutical development field for 10 years and business development/mergers and acquisitions for 20 years. He holds a PhD in biochemistry. Most recently he was Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances at Schering Plough in Kenilworth, New Jersey from 2004 to 2009.
Tom is the past president (2007-08) of Licensing Executive Society (LES), a professional society comprising more than 6,000 members engaged in the transfer, use, development, manufacture and marketing of intellectual property. During Tom’s presidency at LES and after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2006, Tom emphasized the importance of interdependence as a way to make successful alliances – the cornerstone to better health, advancing science and a global network of strong allies. Through this interdependence and mutual support, Tom is encouraged that progress will be made in developing new therapies and, ultimately, a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
