Brian Fiske, PhD
Associate Director, Team Leader
Research Programs
Brian Fiske joined the Foundation in November 2004.
Dr. Fiske earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Texas A&M University and his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Virginia. His thesis work focused on brain development and in particular how activity in the immature nervous system regulates generation and survival of new nerve cells. He continued his work in the laboratory of Lloyd Greene at Columbia University as a postdoctoral fellow, where he looked for genes that were preferentially expressed in response to neuronal activity.
Dr. Fiske then had the unique opportunity to move out of the laboratory and work as an editor for the prestigious scientific journal, Nature Neuroscience, where he helped evaluate and review cutting-edge scientific research findings submitted by top scientists in the field (including many papers on Parkinson's disease). Through his work at the journal, Dr. Fiske amassed a broad understanding of the neuroscience field and now brings this knowledge to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
