Sonal S. Das, PhD
Associate Director
Research Programs

Sonal Das joined the Foundation in June, 2009. Dr. Das received her BA in Biology (Concentration: Neurobiology and Behavior) from Cornell University and subsequently earned her PhD in Neuroscience from Oregon Health & Science University. There she completed her dissertation in the laboratory of Dr. Gary Banker, where her thesis work focused on understanding how proteins important for neuronal function were specifically localized to distinct regions within the same neuron. Dr. Das then continued her research as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Stanley Froehner’s laboratory at the University of Washington, where she broadened her neuroscience background by investigating a protein integral to water flux at the blood-brain barrier and the means by which this protein was anchored to the cell surface of astrocytes both normally and during an in vitro model of stroke.
