Advocating for the Patient Voice in Research Ethics Discussions

Earlier this week MJFF Senior Vice President of Research Partnerships Sohini Chowdhury spoke to the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues on the vital need for the patient voice in discussions around research ethics.

In particular, Sohini discussed the Foundation’s experience in considerations around genetic testing for Parkinson’s and around asking patients to share personal and medical information through online platforms.

You can watch Sohini’s presentation on the Commission’s website. Visit the site then choose to “Play Flash Video” for Session 4: The Potential of Neuroscience Research. Sohini begins at the 11:19 mark.

Learn more about how we’re studying the genetics of Parkinson’s through the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative.
