Family-Run Business Issues $10,000 Matching Challenge in Honor of PD Awareness Month

Modern Store Equipment, a New Jersey-based, family-owned manufacturer and distributor of beverage shelving, refrigeration and other equipment, is an example of how small businesses can rally their communities behind a cause. This April, in honor of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, the company is running a campaign to benefit Team Fox that matches donations until they reach $10,000, led by its President, David Dunigan.

David sees his company as having a unique opportunity to educate clients, friends, fellow vendors and others about the need for Parkinson’s research, including efforts to determine biomarkers and develop disease-modifying treatments. He cites the Foundation’s commitment to efficiency and how 100 percent of Team Fox funds go to research as driving factors in creating the campaign.

He describes the match as a promise to both the company’s and the Parkinson’s community:
“We want people to be motivated by the difference that we can make together. Every donation has the potential to improve quality of life.”

David is also moved to action by his personal connection to Parkinson’s, as his father and the company’s founder, Thomas Dunigan, had PD and his mother, Erika Dunigan, also lives with PD. He sums up his goal as one of determination and optimism:

“We are inspired by a future without Parkinson’s disease: one where patients who are diagnosed can look forward to a cure instead of a lifetime of symptom management.”
