FOX FOTO FRIDAY: Start Your Engines

On September 28, 2013 Whelen Motorsports provided spectators at Lime Rock Park (Sharon, CT) with a fantastic event as the #31 Team Fox Corvette captured a first place finish in the Grand-Am Rolex Championship. Led by Team Fox member and MJFF Board Member Sonny Whelen, the Marsh Racing team also includes drivers Eric Curran, Boris Said and Lawson Aschenbach.

With thousands of spectators turning up to watch the race, the Whelen Engineering  Hospitality Tent was bustling with supporters from the Corvette Club of Connecticut, Whelen Engineering and race fans from all around the surrounding area. Also in attendance was Kim Gannon, an avid race fan and the Senior Vice President of Research and Development at NeuroPhage Pharmaceuticals. One of the five biopharmaceutical companies selected for The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s 2013 Research Partnering Program, NeuroPhage maintains a focus on molecules targeting proteins such as alpha-synuclein. “In my 15 years working in drug development, NeuroPhage is one of the most exciting companies that I have worked for,” relays Kim. “We are moving at rapid speed to get our drug candidate into the clinic and we are extremely grateful to MJFF for their past and continued support of our efforts to make an impact on Parkinson’s disease.” In addition to having a chance to interact with other Foundation and Team Fox supporters, Kim was also one of the four lucky winners of the Whelen “Hot Lap” Raffle earning a spot next to Whelen racer Eric Curran for a lap around the track prior to the race!

While the Whelen first place finish was enough cause for celebration on Saturday, the event also helped raise over $5,000 in donations for Team Fox. Congrats to those who helped coordinate the day’s efforts and thanks to all for coming out to cheer on Team Fox!

To see more from the exciting day at Lime Rock Park, including footage of the #31 Team Fox Corvette on the track, watch Whelen racecar driver Eric Curran narrate the highlights in this great post-race video.
