Fox Foto Friday: Student Pancake Breakfast Raises Over $50K

On Saturday, October 25 students at the University of Virginia (UVa) welcomed over 8,000 members of the University and surrounding Charlottesville community for their 11th Annual Pancakes for Parkinson’s breakfast. Having already crossed the $50,000 fundraising mark, students are well on their way to achieving their ambitious $60,000 goal—a new record for the student-led fundraiser!

So what, exactly, does it take to host a pancake breakfast for thousands of hungry and eager diners? Try 60 10-pound bags of pancake mix, 30 pounds of blueberries, 100 gallons of orange juice and more than 400 student volunteers! And let’s not forget 6 months of planning and preparation by the 35-member student Executive Committee, all of whom are also full-time students.

In the 11 years since Pancakes for Parkinson’s was founded at UVa, the celebrated tradition has not only become the largest student-run philanthropy on campus, but also one of the most highly-anticipated Fall events for the local Charlottesville community. Featuring a kid’s area, student a’capella performances and a tasty toppings bar fit to satisfy any breakfast enthusiast, UVa Pancakes truly hits the sweet spot for enticing supporters of all ages to come together in support of a cure for Parkinson’s.
