MJFF Breaks News of Nike Mag Shoe Release in 2016

MJF trying on shoesBack to the Future (BTTF) fans had extra cause for celebration on "Back to the Future Day” as The Michael J. Fox Foundation joined Nike in announcing the debut of the self-lacing Nike Mag shoes in the spring of 2016. Made famous in the second installment of the BTTF trilogy, the Nike Mag shoes are the dream of Marty McFly fans everywhere.

On Wednesday, October 21, in a coordinated effort with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), Nike presented the first pair of futuristic shoes to Michael J. Fox. Legendary Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield teased the special gift via a handwritten note (see below): “We wanted you to be the first to receive a pair… In addition to your personal pair, we’re creating more pairs for support in aid of the Foundation in 2016.”

MJFF had the unique opportunity to work with Nike to break the news to the public via social media posts; however, fans will have to wait until next year for the shoes to be available.

This exciting news builds upon previous collaboration between Nike and MJFF. In 2011, Nike hosted a 10-day auction of 1,500 limited edition 2011 Nike MAG shoes to benefit MJFF. The auction raised more than $9.4 million to support our efforts to help speed a cure for Parkinson’s and drew critical awareness to the importance of Parkinson’s research.
