Four Riders Prepare for Return to 7th Annual New England Parkinson's Ride

Members of Team "Do Good Marketing" at the 2013 Ride

This Saturday will mark the 7th Annual New England Parkinson’s Ride, a staple in the Team Fox event calendar that recently hit a new milestone: crossing the $1 million mark for funds raised. Over 600 riders are expected to particiapte this year, many of whom come back year after year to participate in either the 10-, 30-, 50- or 100-mile ride that starts and ends in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. We caught up with some of those riders who shared what the ride means to them.

Name: Michael Haviland of Team Do Good Marketing
Number of years participating: 4
Reason for Participating: Michael's father was diagnosed with PD a few years ago
Michael says, "The New England Parkinson’s Ride is my way of helping to find a cure for this terrible disease.  I have seen the effects PD has on my dad and our entire family and I hope and pray and pedal for a cure."

Name: John Kycia of Team Kycia
Number of years participating: 5
Reason for Participating: John's identical twin brother Ed was diagnosed 21 years ago at age 32 – but has never complained or asked “why me?” – plus, this year he’s riding!
John says, "The NE Parkinson’s Ride means the world to me. I heard about the ride back in later part of 2009. In the spring of 2010 I tossed aside my mountain bike in favor of a new road bike, made a few calls and Team Kycia was formed. Our team is now eight riders strong and has raised over $18,000 the past 5 years!"

Name: Linda Mandolini of Team Forza Mandolini
Number of years participating: 5
Reason for Participating: Linda's mother has PD
Linda says. "I ride my bike a lot for charity but very few of the rides have as close a connection to the cause as this one.  The first year I rode, I was amazed at how many of my friends had family members with Parkinson's. Edna and the Woods family are inspiring and we've been grateful to pedal alongside them every year."

Name:Susan Mollohan of Team Suzy’s Shakers
Number of years participating: 5
Reason for Participating: Susan was diagnosed with PD in March 2009
Susan says, "The New England Parkinson's Ride has become the catalyst of things that now fill my life with purpose and meaning. The ride inspires me to fundraise for research, inspired me to become a Fox Trial Finder Ambassador, and to participate in trials myself. I am inspired by the entire Woods family!"
