Passionate Young Austrian Brings Team Fox Spirit Abroad

Passionate Young Austrian Brings Team Fox Spirit Abroad

Since Team Fox's inception in 2006, our team has remained so inspired by the ways in which our message and mission have spread to the far reaches of the globe. From Australia to Argentina, members of the Parkinson’s community are doing an incredible job raising awareness and funds in support of Parkinson’s research.

This week, we took a moment to catch up with Daniela Goldgruber, a 22-year old from Graz, Austria who has joined the Team Fox family in honor and memory of her grandfather. Learn more about her upcoming clothing bazaar, taking place April 5 and 6:

Tell us about your event!

VERGISSMEINNICHT Kleidermarkt is a bazaar for second hand clothes and accessories. Since January, people have been donating their gently worn goods, which I will then wash, package and resell in support of charity. My event will also feature a live band, an electronic DJ, and a buffet with a huge selection of all kinds of muffins, cookies and drinks from our sponsors. I decided to include an entry fee which, combined with the sales profits, will all be donated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

So far, there are 100 huge posters around Vienna and the event will be promoted on 300 screens in the Graz and Vienna trams. We also have a number of features in local newspapers  and I am ‘the person of the day’ in another Austrian newspaper. So far, I’ve raised $2,000 and the event hasn’t even started yet. It’s amazing how this has grown from an idea, to a huge event reaching thousands of people.

What was your inspiration to first get involved with Team Fox?

My inspiration to get involved with Team Fox was my late grandfather, who lived with Parkinson’s for over 10 years. After he passed away in 2013, I wanted to turn his fight into something good, and something good for myself. I decided to take to the stage and be an agent of change in order to teach others how they can help and get involved. The support has been overwhelming, and I can feel him beaming all the way down from heaven.

What has been the most enjoyable part of planning your event thus far?

I started this event with my grandfather’s struggle in mind; however, so soon I received incredible reactions from sponsors and people who were impressed with my idea and how professional I was planning the whole event. It is impossible for me to believe what this has become and the response from one particular sponsor, writing: ‘It is wonderful to see, that there are people like you out there’, has continued to inspire me.

The most rewarding part has been realizing that I have reached more people than I could have possibly imagined and I wanted to let the world know that there is someone fighting the Parkinson’s fight in Austria.

What’s one piece of advice that you would give to a fellow young adult looking to get involved?

Since I am only 22 years old, many people underestimated my drive to succeed and the professionalism with which I approached this idea. I think I’ve proven that once your heart is set to something, and you give it 101% every day, no matter what your age or where you’re from, you can have an impact. It’s easier than you think!
