Puzzle for a Cure This Parkinson's Awareness Month

Puzzle for a Cure This Parkinson's Awareness Month

For the second year in a row, Magic Jigsaw Puzzles has partnered with Team Fox in honor of Parkinson's Awareness Month. Throughout April, the gaming app -- which lets you complete jigsaw puzzles from your mobile phone, tablet or desktop -- will donate proceeds from purchases of specially marked Team Fox puzzle packs to the high-impact research and policy programs of The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF).

Magic Jigsaw Puzzles posted a blog post announcing their partnership with Team Fox and the significance of supporting PD Awareness Month, "This campaign allows us to make a contribution to help the millions of people living with Parkinson's disease." Last year, the April campaign raised more than $29,000. This year, proceeds from the Team Fox puzzle packs have already surpassed $25,000 and there's still one week left to take part!

Each featured puzzle pack showcases work from photographers who are living with Parkinson's. Learn more about the artists below, including how they got involved with Team Fox and how creativity has helped them live well with PD:

Jeff Keefer

Jeffrey Keefer: Diagnosed in 2007, Jeff joined MJFF's Patient Council in 2010, and in 2014 became a member of the Foundation's Board of Directors, where he now sits as Chairman. His participation with Magic Jigsaw Puzzles "is another way to raise awareness about PD." Jeff's interest in photography started from videography. Currently, he sells his photos at The Harbour Town Lighthouse on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Last year he raised more than $10,000 and believes that participating in the Magic Jigsaw campaign is another way to help end PD.

Michael Stevens

Michael Stevens: In 2009, Michael was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's at age 46. Prior to his diagnosis, Michael had never painted, sculpted or worked in an artistic manner, but in the past few years, has found a new passion for creativity. Michael has also donated a portion of proceeds from his artwork toward speeding a cure. "PD affects every day of my life, but with these challenges I see new opportunities," Michael said. "While my path to this new reality may not be common or ever fully understood, it is this transformation that is part of me, changed me and inspired me to do more."

John Knight

John Knight: John was diagnosed in 2003. While his diagnosis prompted an early retirement from his career as a geologist, it hasn't slowed him down -- John lives by the motto, "I have Parkinson's, but Parkinson's doesn't have me!" Living in Calgary, Alberta for the past 30 years has led John to an extensive exploration of Canada's natural landscapes. John contributed photography to the Magic Jigsaw Puzzles campaign in 2016 and returned to take part in another successful year! He donates his photos as a way to thank those who work in Parkinson's research and to support the larger PD community.

Thank you to Magic Jigsaw Puzzles and these creative artists -- we appreciate your continued support of our shared mission to end Parkinson's!
