This summer, kids and teens across the country are bringing the Team Fox spirit to their communities with the Team Fox Summer Series. From backyard BBQs to summer camp talents shows, our Summer Series ambassadors are finding creative ways to raise both awareness and funds in support of Parkinson's research.
This week, we're catching up with 10-year-old Team Fox veteran Hannah Stephenson, who has already raised nearly $6,000 this summer through Cakes for a Cure! Inspired by her father, who lives with Parkinson's, and her love for baking, Hannah recruited her friends to join her in hosting a sale while also recruiting online donations. A highlinght thus far? A visit from the mayor (see below), who presented her with a medal in recognition of her efforts! Too cool.
We’re thrilled that you’ll be joining our Summer Series over the next few months! Tell us about your plans. Do you have a fundraising goal?
I am going to have a really big bake sale and my friends are helping me out. I want to raise $4000 this year!
What was the inspiration behind getting involved and selling some homemade treats?
My Dad, who has Parkinson's, is my inspiration and I also really like to cook. I have taken cooking camps the last two summers.
You’ve fundraised for Team Fox before-- What are you most excited about this time?
Last time I did a few things, like selling lemonade and recyling crafts in my community. This year, I'm focusing on one big event. I am most excited about breaking my goal, and maybe getting to eat some of the treats!
What do you think the recipe for the perfect summer fundraiser is?
Sweets (homemade of course) and friends helping.
Favorite summer tradition?
Fundraising for Team Fox, of course...and I really love going to the beach!
