Raising Funds and Awareness for Parkinson's Disease This Holiday Season

Raising Funds and Awareness for Parkinson's Disease This Holiday Season

Gil Poleshuck Kinel is in the holiday spirit! An eight-year-old from Rochester, NY, Gil set out to help speed a cure to Parkinson’s research by hosting his very own bake sale as part of his local synagogue’s annual Hanukkah Bazaar. All in an effort to raise funds and awareness for The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Gil set out practice and perfect his best holiday treats with a goal of generating at least $50 in sales.

With help from his older brother, Oren, who made all of the advertising materials, including a special “Back to the Future” themed donation collection box, as well as friends from his religious school class, Gil was able raise $309.65, far surpassing his target.

What’s more, individuals were not only interested in Gil’s baked goods, but they were also eager to learn about the work of the Fox Foundation. Alongside his offerings, Gil strategically distributed Fox Trial Finder and PPMI brochures to let everyone know that they can play a direct role in advancing research by participating in clinical trials.

*Editor's note: Since his bake sale, Gil raised an additional $190 for The Michael J. Fox Foundation, increasing his total to roughly $500!
