Founded in 2006, Rock Steady Boxing is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with Parkinson's improve their quality of life. A boxing-based, non-contact training program specifically designed and developed for people with Parkinson's, Rock Steady Boxing NY/LA was founded in 2014 by three individuals: Dr. Roberta Marongiu, a neuroscientist and Instructor at Weill Medical College of Cornell University; Alex Montaldo, a stage and film actor based in New York City; and Kathleen Glick, a Los Angeles entrepreneur and owner of the independent production company Asterian Films. The New York home to the program is the world famous Gleason's Gym.†
Rock Steady Boxing NY/LAís mission is to help people with Parkinson's disease (PD) maximize their mental, emotional and physical potential. Since boxing works by moving an athleteís body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine throughout the workout, Rock Steady also has the added benefit of teaching Parkinsonís patients to become accustomed to movement adaptation With a focus on overall fitness, reaction time and balance, workouts include: †cardio, strength training, stretching, bag work, calisthenics, and core training.
You can stay up to date by visiting the eventís Facebook page and by purchasing tickets via Eventbrite.† Proceeds will be split between both Rock Steady and Team Fox.† Help punch away Parkinsonís for good!
