Running Toward a Cure: In the Clinic and on the Course

For Team Fox marathoner Peter Bleiberg, participating in a clinical trial is an important opportunity — and, he feels, an obligation. So in the four years since his Parkinson’s diagnosis, he’s already taken part in three trials and is looking forward to creating his profile on Fox Trial Finder.

Peter’s diagnosis marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, and a new challenge. Inspired to do whatever he could to help other Parkinson’s patients, he joined Team Fox and has run the Boston Marathon three times to raise funds for The Michael J. Fox Foundation. In addition to his six to 20 hours of training every week, he encourages people to get involved, especially through clinical trials.

“Not everyone can run a marathon, but there are so many ways to make a difference,” Peter says. “Even if you’re highly motivated to participate in clinical research, it’s been difficult to find the trials that could be a good fit,” Peter says. But Fox Trial Finder will make participating easier than ever before. Create a profile, and you’ll see a list of trials that are strong potential matches for someone with your specific medical history. Even if there aren’t any trials today, you’ll be automatically notified as new potential matches are added to the site.

“I have reaped the benefits of taking part in clinical trials,” Peter says. “But one of the most valuable aspects has been the feeling that I’ve contributed something that could help speed a cure for Parkinson’s. You can, too.”
