Summer Intern Spotlight: Meet Tara Levine

Summer Intern Spotlight: Meet Tara Levine

Tara Levine, Business Intelligence

Every summer, The Michael J. Fox Foundation acquires a talented pool of interns who lend their skills to our mission to cure Parkinson's, and benefit from the chance to witness day-to-day operations at a fast-paced nonprofit.

This summer, MJFF’s Communication’s Intern, Sahirah Johnson, sat down with her fellow interns at the Foundation to ask a few questions for the Fox Feed blog. Check out our Q&A with Tara Levine, a junior at St. Joseph’s University to hear about her experiences interning with Team Fox.

Share a fun fact about yourself.

I have played basketball since the third grade, and now have the pleasure of being the coach of a seventh and eighth grade boys' travel team.

What advice would you give to other interns?

The advice I would give would be to never be afraid to speak up during your time here. There are going to be slow days. If you find yourself not really working on any projects, ask your supervisor if there is something you can help with. Similarly, in meetings, if you have an idea on how to improve something make sure you say so! New ideas are always welcome, and you will never be looked down upon for suggesting one. Finally, if there is anything specific you have interest in make sure to tell your supervisor or someone on your team. Your supervisor will go out of his/her way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your internship at MJFF and try to give you projects that spark your interests.

What project are you most enjoying working on?

The project I have most enjoyed working on is helping manage our fundraising database. I assist in tracking Team Fox fundraisers from the previous year and the current year. I liked this because it was relevant information my team needed to help inform our fundraising goals.

What is the one thing you hope to take away from your internship at MJFF?

I hope to take away a better understanding of the Foundation as a whole because my grandma was recently diagnosed with PD and that influenced my decision to apply for this internship position. I also hope to have a stronger understanding of fundraising overall.

Outside of the internship, what is one thing on your summer agenda?

Besides my internship with Team Fox, this summer I have had the privilege of going to North Carolina for a week to help on a project for Habitat for Humanity. I also have been running my own basketball clinic every Monday after work. I race back to the Bronx to spend an hour and a half teaching basic basketball fundamentals to elementary school aged kids.
