Distinguished Associate Professor of Molecular Genomics at Grand Valley State University

Location: Grand Rapids, MI United States

Sok Kean Khoo, PhD, received her BSc and MSc in applied biology from the University of Science, Malaysia. She obtained her PhD in fisheries genetics from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. Subsequently, she completed her postdoctoral training in cancer genetics at Van Andel Institute. She was promoted to associate director of the Laboratory of Germline Modification and Cytogenetics and later as core director for the Genomic Microarray Core Facility. Dr. Khoo is currently a distinguished associate professor of molecular genomics in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Grand Valley State University.

Her current interest is on translational molecular biomarker research and applications. Her laboratory’s mission includes identifying, developing and validating molecular biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of various human cancers and neurological disorders. These biomarkers can also be further studied to facilitate the development of new therapeutic interventions to treat or delay the progression of human diseases.
