Yoshiro Saito, PhD

Associate Professor at Doshisha University

Location: Kyotanabe Japan

Dr. Yoshiro Saito received his PhD in biochemistry and cell biology from Hokkaido University.  Subsequently, he completed his postdoctoral training as a research fellow in the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and advanced to a research scientist position at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).  He has been working at Doshisha University since 2008 where he is currently an associate professor.  His expertise is in biochemistry of oxidative stress.  His research interests include understanding the role of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress, in particular protein oxidation, in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.  He has successfully prepared the specific antibody for oxidized DJ-1 and tries to establish the detection system of PD patients at early phases based on the levels of oxidized DJ-1.
