Michael Sattler, PhD (Dr. phil. nat.)

Director/Professor at Institute of Structural Biology, Helmholtz Zentrum München

Location: Neuherberg Germany

Dr. Sattler obtained his PhD from the University of Frankfurt (1995) in developing methodology for biomolecular NMR. He elucidated the structural biology of proteins linked to apoptosis (Bcl-xl/Bak) working as a postdoctoral fellow with Steve Fesik at Abbott Labs. Since establishing an independent research group at the EMBL in Heidelberg in 1997, his laboratory has focused on structural mechanisms of the regulation of gene expression, i.e. (alternative) pre-mRNA splicing and non-coding RNAs (RNAi, miRNAs), as well as cellular signal transduction (Abl kinase). His laboratory at the Helmholtz Zentrum München and the TU München combines NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and Small Angle X-ray/Neutron Scattering (SAXS/SANS) for structural analysis of proteins and protein complexes that are linked to human disease. Michael has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and is Editorial Board Member of J Biol Chem and J Struct Biol.
