Alessio Masi, PhD

Postdoctoral fellow at University of Florence

Location: Florence Italy

Alessio Masi received his MS in biology in 2000 from the University of Florence and his PhD in oncology in 2004 from the same institution. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Forsyth Insitute/Harvard Medical School from 2004 to 2005. He has a strong background in neuroscience, focusing mainly on the study of the modulation of glutamatergic synaptic activity, the interactions between energy metabolism and ion channels, and the mechanisms underlying hypothalamic temperature control. His main interest is currently the physio-pathological link between energy metabolism and electrophysiological properties of neurons undergoing neurodegeneration. He has implemented several methodological approaches to electrophysiological recordings on many experimental models: cell cultures, primary cultures and acute brain slices. He has extensive experience in fluorescence microscopy and its application to neuroscience, such as calcium imaging and immunofluorescence.
