Jérôme Baufreton, PhD

CNRS Researcher at Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of Bordeaux 2

Location: Bordeaux France

Jérôme Baufreton, CNRS Researcher, has authored or co-authored 13 professional publications in the field of neurobiology, most of which are on Parkinson's disease and related disorders. He is best known for his work on GABAergic synaptic transmission and plasticity in the basal ganglia network and the contribution of this neurotransmitter in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease. His current research interests include, the study of the cellular and synaptic mechanisms involved in the aberrant electrophysiological activity of the basal ganglia network observed in Parkinson’s disease, the cellular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation.

Jérôme Baufreton is a young group leader of the team Synaptic and Cellular Dynamics of Neuronal Networks which belongs to the Neurodegenerative Disorders Institute (Bordeaux, France). He is also a regular referee of several neurobiology journals and participates in the training of PhD students and post-docs during the Europeen Synapse Summer School organized each year in Bordeaux.
