Lars Matthias Ittner, MD

Lars Ittner is an associate professor at the University of Sydney and head of the Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease Laboratory at the Brain & Mind Research Institute in Sydney, Australia. He received his medical training from the University of Ulm in Germany and the University of Zurich in Switzerland, where he graduated in 2002. He did his postdocs with Professor Jan Fischer at the University of Zurich and then with Professor Jürgen Götz at the University of Sydney. His research focuses on deciphering molecular pathomechanisms in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and related forms of neurodegeneration, and developing novel therapies for these disorders. His research has been published in top-ranked scientific journals, including Cell, Nature Medicine and Cell Stem Cell. Lars Ittner currently holds a prestigious senior research fellowship from the National Heath & Medical Research Council in Australia.
