Anita Sidhu, PhD

After completing her PhD at the City University of New York, Mt. Sinai Hospital, Anita Sidhu, PhD, joined the National Institutes of Health [NIH] in Bethesda, Maryland, to pursue research in diseases of the brain. After five years at the NIH, Dr. Sidhu joined Georgetown University in 1989 as an assistant professor and where she is now a professor. Her contributions to Parkinson’s disease (PD) research include discovery of a normal function for alpha-synuclein, a major protein involved in PD, and the finding that the protein tau, which is normally linked to Alzheimer’s disease, may also have a role in PD. Dr. Sidhu has published more than 130 articles, edited a book on dopamine and dopamine transporters, and has served as an ad-hoc reviewer on more than 50 NIH grant review committees.
