Victoria M. Bolotina, PhD, is a professor of medicine, physiology and biophysics and director of the Calcium Signaling Unit at the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). She is also director of the Multidisciplinary Postdoctoral Training Program and of the Affinity Research Collaboration on Calcium Homeostasis in Health and Disease.

Dr. Bolotina completed her undergraduate and graduate education at Moscow State University. In 1992 she moved to the United States, where she joined BUSM and created an ion channel and calcium signaling group. Her research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and in 2012 she was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for Research and Service by BUSM.

Dr. Bolotina is considered to be a leading expert in the field of calcium signaling, and her advanced mechanistic studies of ion channels and calcium homeostasis have been cited more than 2,200 times. Dr. Bolotina has brought novel ideas and unique multidisciplinary expertise to the Parkinson’s disease (PD) field and recently spearheaded a new research direction that focuses on the calcium signaling role of PARK14 and other molecular and genetic targets associated with familial and idiopathic PD. Her goals are to validate a new Ca²⁺ signaling mechanism involved in age-dependent demise of dopaminergic neurons and to develop new treatments for PD patients.
