Gert Geurtsen, PhD, MSc, is a clinical neuropsychologist at the Academic Medical Hospital of the University of Amsterdam, which he joined in 2012. Dr. Geurtsen's research focuses on applied neuropsychological topics such as delineating the cognitive profile of neurological and psychiatric diseases, and neuropsychological (side) effects of medical treatments. More in particular, his current research focuses on cognitive profiles in Parkinson’s disease (especially Parkinson’s disease mild cognitive impairment) and on prediction of cognitive sequela of deep brain stimulation. He studied psychology at the University of Groningen. Dr. Geurtsen obtained a master’s degree in clinical psychology in 1996. During the next years he practiced neuropsychology and specialized as a health care psychologist and subsequently as a clinical neuropsychologist. He combined clinical work and research for his doctoral thesis at rehabilitation center Groot Klimmendaal in Arnhem. He obtained a doctorate in 2011 at the Radboud University Nijmegen.
