Lisa Chakrabarti, PhD, is Lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of Nottingham, UK. She received the degree B.Sc. (Hons) in zoology from the University of Leeds. Her doctoral studies were on The molecular basis of X-linked mental retardation, for which she gained a PhD from the University of Oxford. Postdoctoral research included research projects at the University of Washington in Seattle and at the Institute of Neurology at the University of London. In 2010 she was appointed Lecturer in Biochemistry at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science at the University of Nottingham, UK. During her career she has consistently returned to studying neurons in the brain and eye using established and cutting-edge techniques, which has lead to a multi-disciplinary approach to her work. Dr. Chakrabarti’s research is currently focused upon understanding the biology of neuronal mitochondria.
