Liancai Mu, MD, PhD, is senior scientist at Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Mu has degrees in medicine (MD) and otolaryngology (MS, PhD) from China Medical University. He has been conducting research into the neuromuscular specializations of the pharynx, larynx, and tongue and upper airway disorders for most of his career. In recent years, Dr. Mu’s research is focused on elucidating the neural basis and mechanisms of dysphagia, voice and speech disorders in Parkinson’s disease. His research has been funded by a number of R01 grants from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders of the National Institutes of Health. His work has been published extensively in medical journals. Dr. Mu serves as a reviewer and on the editorial board of a number of scientific journals. He has been the recipient of multiple honors and awards, including Broyles-Maloney Award (American Broncho-Esophalogical Association), President’s Award (American Academy of Otolaryngology), and Science NOW entitled “Your Tongue, Inside Out.”
