As director of neurology research for Biogen, Dr. Warren Hirst heads the groupís efforts to seek disease-modifying therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. His focus is on Parkinsonís disease ó investigating neuropathological mechanisms, new targets and developing novel therapeutics.
Dr. Hirstís extensive background in neuroscience includes his work as an associate research fellow in the Pfizer Neuroscience Research Unit, where he led the programs focusing on novel therapeutic strategies for Parkinsonís. This included research into understanding the role of LRRK2, GBA and protein misfolding.
Dr. Hirst was previously in the Wyeth Neurodegeneration Research Department, where he led the molecular pharmacology group, and worked for GlaxoSmithKline in the United Kingdom. He received his BSc and PhD from Imperial College, London, and has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles.
