Ruolan Liu, MD, PhD, MS, came to the United States after receiving her MD degree from Shanghai Medical College of Fudan, University in China. She obtained her PhD degree in neuroscience and her MS degree in biostatistics from the University of Southern California. Dr. Liu started her postgraduate training at the Barrow Neurological Institute, where her primary interests focused on immunoregulation in autoimmune neurological disorders, such as myasthenia gravis and multiple sclerosis. She was awarded with a Career Development Grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association and promoted as an assistant professor. Dr. Liu joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Louisville in November 2011 as assistant professor. Her current research interest is to explore the interaction between the nervous system and immune system influencing the development and pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, especially in inflammatory and immune responses, as well as to explore new immunotherapy for those disorders.
