John Caviness, MD, obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and his MD degree at Indiana University. At Mayo Clinic Rochester, he completed a neurology residency in 1990 and an electroencephalography fellowship in 1991. As a Mayo Foundation scholar, Dr. Caviness studied the clinical and electrophysiological characteristics of movement disorders at the Queen’s Square Institute of Neurology, National Hospital for Neurosurgery and Neurology, London, United Kingdom. Dr. Caviness is a staff member of Mayo Clinic Arizona, Department of Neurology. He is board certified in neurology, electroencephalography, and other clinical neurophysiology. He is the founder and director of the movement neurophysiology laboratory at Mayo Clinic Arizona. Dr. Caviness’ research interests have been pre-clinical Parkinson’s disease (PD); PD cognitive dysfunction, including early signs (PD-MCI); biochemical determinants of cortical dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease; and electrophysiology and pathophysiology of PD dementia. Recently, PD cognition biomarker development with neurophysiological methods has been his major interest.
