Viviana Gradinaru, PhD, is an assistant professor of biology and biological engineering at Caltech. Dr. Gradinaru has a BS from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and a PhD from Stanford School of Medicine. Through her work at Stanford with Dr. Karl Deisseroth and in her own laboratory at Caltech, Dr. Gradinaru has been contributing to brain research by developing and using optogenetic tools (for function control of electrically excitable tissue) and Clarity (for intact circuit mapping and phenotyping). Dr. Gradinaru is a 2013 Pew Scholar, HFSP Young Scientist, World Economic Forum Young Scientist and NIH Directorís New Innovator.
