Paolo Barone, MD, PhD, is author of more than 200 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include (i) neuropharmacology of the dopaminergic system, (ii) neuropharmacology of neurodegenerative diseases and movement disorders with particular regard to Parkinsonís disease and atypical parkinsonism, (iii) genetics of movement disorders, (iv) behavioral and cognitive disturbances of movement disorders, (v) non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and (vi) clinical progression of movement disorders.
Prof. Baron has been principal investigator of several observational and interventional trials for Parkinson's disease and atypical parkinsonism. He is now involved in the Parkinsonís Progression Markers Initiative. Further, he is an active member of the EMSA-Study Group (European Multiple System Atrophy Study Group), which contributed to the clinical, genetic and neuroimaging characterization of multiple system atrophy (MSA) and performed double-blind, randomized clinical trials with MSA patients.
