Fábio Klamt, PhD, is professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and principal investigator of The Laboratory of Cellular Biochemistry at UFRGS. He has more than 18 years of research experience in cell culture, oxidative stress, mitochondrial physiology, apoptosis and cancer biomarkers. Prof. Klamt undertook the seminal work that demonstrated the involvement of cofilin-1 in mediating oxidative stress in lung cancer. He spent two years as postdoctoral fellow at the Division of Therapeutic Proteins, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Bethesda, Maryland.
Prof. Klamt has published more than 58 original papers in leading scientific journals (such as Nature Cell Biology, Molecular Psychiatry, Journal of Biological Chemistry). Currently an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Science, he has been a reviewer of several international journals. Finally, he has presented over 60 invited lectures and posters at national and international meetings since 1997.
