Frank Michael Skidmore, MD

Frank Michael Skidmore, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Virginia and trained as a neurologist at Indiana University Medical Center. He received further clinical and research training at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. He is a fellowship-trained movement disorders specialist.

Working initially as a busy clinician at the North Florida/South Georgia VA Medical Center, Dr. Skidmore noted neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease are commonly associated with subtle findings on imaging. His initial imaging research was funded by Capital City Harley Davidson and Gainesville Harley Davidson, as well as through local community fund drives.

He currently leads a small team of engineers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham focused on leveraging the rapidly growing potential of high-performance computing to extract diagnostic information from brain imaging data. His research is currently supported by the National Institutes of Health and The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
