Jan Bert Paul Gramsbergen, PhD

Dr. Jan Bert Gramsbergen graduated with an MSci in biology in 1984 and received his PhD in biochemical neuropharmacology in 1988 under supervision of Prof. J. Korf at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Dr. Gramsbergen completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Prof. R. Schwarcz at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center in Baltimore in 1989 and was assistant professor at TNO Health Research in Rijswijk, The Netherlands until 1995. That year he was appointed associate professor at the Institute of Medical Biology/Molecular Medicine at the University of Southern Denmark. Dr. Gramsbergen’s research has been focused on neurodegenerative diseases, including in vivo and in vitro models of Parkinson’s disease, cerebral ischemia, monoamines, excitatory amino acids, oxidative stress and brain energy metabolism.
