Dr. Charlotte D'Hulst was trained in bioengineering at the University of Leuven in Belgium and completed her doctoral studies at the Center of Medical Genetics at the University of Antwerp in Belgium, work for which she received the Brain Research Young Investigators Award and the Fragile X Young Investigators Rising Star Award. During her post-doctoral work at Hunter College, CUNY, in New York City, she has developed over 40 pre-clinical models to study the molecular biology of smell. Her research laid the ground-work for MouSensor technology, a genetic approach that increases the ability to detect specific smells. In 2013, she was selected by a post-doctoral fellow as a finalist for the Regeneron Prize for Outstanding Research. She recently co-founded a biotech startup with Professor Feinstein to further translate this technology into real-world applications, and is officially nominated for the 2017 Regional Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists.
