Paul Feinstein, PhD
Associate Professor at Hunter College, CUNY
Chief Scientific Officer at MouSensor, Inc.
Location: New York, New York, United States
Dr. Paul Feinstein has been in the olfactory field since 1986. He received his PhD at Columbia University, where he learned the principles of genetics, which he applied to the mouse olfactory system during his postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University. His 40 peer reviewed publications reflect an array of groundbreaking research. He is a world expert in the generation of genetically modified models to study the molecular biology of the sense of smell. His work in directed mutagenesis of odorant receptor genes in vivo has yielded trailblazing results on olfactory development and wiring. More than 45 gene-targeted models were published in two back-to-back, first-author Cell papers, and, with them, a new direction to study olfactory processes. In addition, Dr. Feinstein has been interested in how odorant receptor genes are transcriptionally activated, research that was the foundation of the MouSensor technology. This transformative approach is now the basis of startup company MouSensor, Inc.
