George Roussos, MSc, PhD, is the professor of pervasive computing at Birkbeck College, University of London, UK, where he serves as the head of the Experimental Data Science section and leads the Internet of Things laboratory. Dr. Roussos holds a BSc in mathematics from the University of Athens, Greece, an MSc in numerical analysis and computing from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK, and a PhD from the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, University of London, UK. He currently studies applications of the Internet of Things -- a network of devices connected wirelessly -- in mobile healthcare; the effects of social activity on mobile system architectures; and mechanisms to support navigation and findability. He has authored four books and over 100 research articles. He was a member of the EU‐China Internet of Things Expert Group from 2010 to 2012, became the Medalist for the best environmental project at the British Computer Society awards in 2011 and has served on the ACM US Public Policy Committee since 2004.
