Amy Katherine Reeve, PhD

Doctor at Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research, Institute of Neuroscience, Newcastle University Medical

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne United Kingdom

Since moving to Newcastle in 2004 to pursue her PhD in mitochondrial biology, Amy Reeve, PhD, has worked to further define the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in the loss of dopamine-producing brain cells in Parkinson's disease (PD). She has become an expert in mitochondrial biology, particularly, in the importance of mitochondria for the function of brain cells. She has also mastered a wide array of research tools for the study of the brain. Dr. Reeve has also developed pre-clinical models to study the movement of mitochondria within dopamine-producing brain cells.

Dr. Reeve currently holds a Parkinson's UK senior research fellowship and oversees a research group of three PhD students. Her group aims to uncover whether neurons can respond to mitochondrial defects to survive.
