Fred H. Gage, Phd

Professor, Laboratory of Genetics at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies

Fred H. Gage is a graduate of the University of Florida and earned a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. The focus of his research in the genetics laboratory is on degeneration and regeneration in the adult central nervous system. He is also a professor in the Department of Neurosciences at the University of California at San Diego. Widely regarded as a leader in neurological research, he is the current president of the Society for Neuroscience. Gage has served or continues to serve on many national and international science committees, including the National Advisory Council on Aging of the National Institutes of Health, and has published nearly 300 professional articles. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including most recently the Robert J. and Claire Pasarow Foundation Award and Max Planck Research Award.
