Moshe Kushnir, MD

Head of Neurology at Kaplan Medical Center

Dr. Moshe Kushnir is an expert neurologist who focuses on pharmacological aspects of neurodegenerative disorders. Currently, Dr. Kushnir is the Head of Neurology at the Kaplan Medical Centre in Rehovot, Israel. He also serves as the clinical advisor of NeuroDerm Ltd., a company which develops a novel delivery system for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and as a neurological arbiter in committees of the National Insurance Institute of Israel. Dr. Kushnir has received his MD degree in 1973 from the Medical School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1980, Dr. Kushnir completed his internship in general neurology in Beilinson-Rabin Medical Center in Israel. Since 1982 Dr. Kushnir has been doing clinical work as a neurological exceprt in the Kaplan Medical Center and in 2002 he was appointed the head of Neurology of this hospital. Dr. Kushnir is engaged in additional professional activities including running an active private neurology clinic. From l989 to l99l, Dr. Kushnir was awarded a clinical Fellowship in Psychogeriatric, Neurogeriatric, and Movement Disorders in the Lafayette Clinic and the Sinai Hospital of Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, where he worked with Drs. Peter LeWitt and David Gurevich. Since 1992 Dr. Kushnir has been doing reaserch in Neuropharmacology at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the Israel Institute of Biological Research, Ness Ziona, Israel, focusing on the involvement of the cholinergic system in the processing of Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein. Currently Dr. Kushnir performs research on the consequences of intermittent stimulation of dopaminergic receptors in relation to Parkinson's disease. In addition Dr. Kushnir is engaged in clinical research on various neurological disorders with a focus on movemenmt disorders. Dr. Kushnir is a member of The Israel Medical Association; the Israel Neurological Society; the International Movement Disorders Society (MDS); and the Medical Advisory Board of the Israel Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Dr. Kushnir is a frequently invited speaker in the Israeli electronic media on neurological issues and in particular Parkinson's disease.
