Paramita Chakrabarty, PhD

Assistant Scientist, Neuroscience at University of Florida Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease

Location: Gainesville, FL United States

Paramita Chakrabarty, PhD, is an assistant scientist at the University of Florida. She studies the effect of neuroinflammation as a driving force behind neurodegenerative pathology in pre-clinical models of multiple neurodegenerative diseases. She received her PhD in molecular parasitology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. Dr. Chakrabarty moved to the University of Washington, Seattle (2003), within Dr. Inez Vincent’s laboratory, to perform postdoctoral work on cell cycle abnormalities and neurodegenerative changes. Additional postdoctoral experience took place at Mayo Clinic in Florida within Dr. Todd Golde’s laboratory and focused on understanding the mechanisms by which beta-amyloid deposition leads to neuronal dysfunction and on developing novel therapeutic strategies targeting pharmacological intervention of amyloid pathology. Dr. Chakrabarty has published 12 peer-reviewed manuscripts, given numerous national and international scientific symposium presentations, and acts as a manuscript reviewer. She has received grant funding from multiple sources including ADRC, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and Bright Focus Foundation.
