Dr. Leentjens is associate professor of psychiatry and senior lecturer in neuropsychiatry at Maastricht University Medical Centre in the Netherlands. He has published over 120 scientific papers and book chapters in the field of neuropsychiatry (H-factor: 20). His research focuses on the neuropsychiatry of Parkinsonís disease, with a focus on the epidemiology, phenomenology, etiology and pathophysiology of mood disorders and cognitive dysfunction in Parkinsonís disease. He has been principal investigator in several single center, and national and international multicenter studies funded by The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Internationaal Parkinson Fonds (IPF), the Internationale Stichting Alzheimer Onderzoek (ISAO), and participated as investigator in other studies. He was member of three Movement Disorder Society task forces (of which two as chair) to appraise and make recommendations for the assessment of mood, anxiety and motivation in patients with Parkinsonís disease. He was a member of the multidisciplinary guideline for the assessment and treatment of Parkinsonís disease, sponsored by the Netherlandsí Research Council.
