Jean-Jacques Roger Soghomonian, PhD

Associate Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine

Location: Boston, MA United States

Jean-Jacques Soghomonian received his Ph.D. in Neurological Sciences from the University of Montreal in 1988. He completed post-doctoral training in the departments of pharmacology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania from 1988 to 1992. Then, he became an assistant professor in the department of anatomy at Laval University in Quebec. In 1998, he joined the department of anatomy and neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine where he is currently an associate professor. Dr. Soghomonian’s research is focused on the cellular neurobiology of the basal ganglia and on the pathophysiology of Parkinson’ disease. Among his contributions, he has shown that dopamine plays an important role in the modulation of GABAergic neurons of the basal ganglia. He has also shown that l-DOPA-induced dyskinesias are paralleled by alterations in the expression of genes encoding for key molecules involved in neurotransmission in neurons of the basal ganglia.
