Genko Oyamam MD, PhD

Genko Oyama is currently associate professor of neurology at Juntendo University in Tokyo. During his residency program and as a chief resident of neurology, Dr. Oyama was broadly trained in internal medicine, neurology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, neuroradiology and electrophysiology. He has expertise in the treatment of movement disorders and his clinical experience motivated him to study these conditions. In his PhD program, he published papers on the physiology of familial Parkinson’s disease in model mice and on studies of pathology in people with Parkin mutations. During a fellowship program in the United States, he successfully carried out clinical studies of various movement disorders and deep brain stimulation. He is a principal investigator on several basic and clinical studies of optogenetics, deep brain stimulation and telemedicine and imaging analysis for movement disorders.
