Dr. Grzegorz Kudla is Professor of Genetic Engineering at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, University of Edinburgh. Trained in Warsaw, Harvard, and Edinburgh, his research combines molecular biology and computational genomics to understand how RNA and protein sequences determine biological function. He developed foundational methods in RNA-RNA and RNA-protein interaction mapping, and has been a pioneer in multiplexed assays of variant effect (MAVEs), using them to study codon usage, splicing, and variant pathogenicity in human disease genes such as PAX6, ADSL, and the insulin receptor. His group now focuses on applying MAVEs for clinical variant interpretation, including recent efforts to model Parkinson's risk genes. He held Wellcome Trust Fellowships from 2012–2024 and became an MRC Investigator and Professor in 2023. He was elected to the EMBO Young Investigator Programme in 2017.
