Dr Laura Smith is a psychologist and behavioural scientist with academic training in neuropsychology. Her research applies psychological and neuropsychological theories to better understand, assess and treat neurological conditions. She is a mixed-methods researcher, combining qualitative analysis, behavioural assessments and cognitive interventions. Dr Smith’s work spans clinical trials, digital health interventions and public engagement initiatives. She has experience leading interdisciplinary projects, securing competitive funding and collaborating with clinical and community stakeholders to translate research into real-world impact.
Dr Smith completed her PhD at the University of Kent with a thesis on vestibular contributions to cognitive function. She subsequently held postdoctoral positions at the University of Bath (diagnostic tools for dementia) and the University of Nottingham (cognitive problems in multiple sclerosis), before returning to Kent for a Lectureship within the Psychology Department. Dr Smith joined QMUL in 2023 working across projects on Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and multiple sclerosis.
