Mathieu Lesort, PhD

Dr Lesort received his undergraduate degree in cell biology and physiology from the University of Nantes (France) and his PhD in Neurosciences from the University Pierre & Marie Curie (Paris, France). Following receipt of his doctorate in 1997, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Johnson at the University of Alabama at Birmingham medical school, where he was supported by the Hereditary Disease Foundation to examine the pathogenesis of Huntington’s disease. In 2001, Dr. Lesort was appointed Assistant Professor and has been a recipient of grants from the NIH, Hereditary Disease Foundation, Pfizer Foundation, High Q Foundation and Alzheimer’s Association. The research interest of Dr. Lesort’s laboratory is directed toward developing models and understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in neurodegenerative disorders in order to propose or validate therapeutic strategies that will delay the onset or slow the progression of these diseases.
