Scott J. Sherman, MD, PhD

Associate Professor of Neurology at University of Arizona

Scott J. Sherman, MD, PhD, is associate professor of neurology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, director of the Movement Disorders Clinic, and medical director of the Arizona Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.  He works at the Southern Arizona VA to direct the Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center. 

He graduated (BS) summa cum laude with highest honors in biochemistry from Brandeis.  He got his MD with honors and a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Washington in Seattle and stayed to complete an anesthesiology residency.  He next moved to the University of Arizona for a neurology residency and epilepsy fellowship.  He is board certified in neurology.

Dr. Sherman’s research interests include deep brain stimulation, gene therapy, and cell-based therapy for Parkinson disease. His original articles on parkinsonism have been published in Science, Movement Disorders, Nature Neuroscience, and Neuroscience.
