Steve Horvath, ScD, PhD

Professor at The Regents of the University of California (UCLA)

Location: Los Angeles, CA United States

Dr. Steve Horvath is professor of human genetics and biostatistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. His group develops and applies biostatistical, computational and systems biologic data analysis methods. He has extensive experience with biomarker development based on genomic data, work featured in a Nature article entitled "Biomarker of ageing: The clock-watcher." His team published the first biomarkers of aging based on DNA methylation (DNAm) and generated a multi-tissue DNAm age estimator which has since been established as one of the most accurate and reproducible molecular biomarkers. His lab is working on enhancing DNAm age estimators along multiple dimensions to make them more predictive of health span, more robust for studies in the laboratory, better targeted to understanding the underlying molecular mechanism of the clockwork and adapted for use in different model organisms.
